Lilongwe (Malawi) : A court in Malawi in southern Africa has ordered the deportation of 10 Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested on charges of illegal entry into the country, Xinhua reported.
The Bangladeshis entered through the Kamuzu international airport in the capital city of Lilongwe. They were arrested Dec 30 near the airport when it was discovered that their passports did not bear the immigration stamp as required.
The Bangladeshis Saturday pleaded guilty before the Lilongwe magistrate court.
The magistrate ordered each of them to pay a fine of $60 or serve a jail term of two months, and said the conduct of the convicts promoted transnational crimes which could affect Malawi.
The defence counsel pleaded with the court for lenience on the grounds that the Bangladeshis were ignorant of immigration requirements.
The court also refused to grant bail to five local people charged with helping the Bangladeshis enter the country illegally.
