On Board Air India One : Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Tuesday he hoped Pakistan will overcome its political crisis in a “pragmatic, practical and effective” manner.
Speaking to reporters on his way to Singapore to attend the India-Asean summit, the prime minister said: “A strong, prosperous, peaceful and democratic Pakistan is in our interest.
He felt the destinies of India and Pakistan “are very closely interlinked”.
“And I sincerely hope that the difficulties through which Pakistan is passing … they would find a pragmatic, practical and effective means to overcome them.”
These were Manmohan Singh’s first comments on Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s decision Nov 3 to impose emergency rule and arrest thousands of rights and opposition activists.
