Islamabad : A Taliban militant who ruthlessly whipped a young woman in Pakistan’s northwest three years ago has been arrested. A video of the incident had the woman pleading “please stop it, stop it”.
Fazal Hadi who had carried out the flogging in Swat in 2009 was arrested Monday, Dawn reported.
The two-minute-long video footage of the incident surfaced April 2, 2009, shocking the nation.
The victim was heard screaming in pain and saying: “For God’s sake, please stop it, stop it.”
Her fervent pleas failed to move the militant who continue to lash her. He stopped only after after completing the ‘sentence’ of lashing her 34 times.
A police case was Nov 30, 2010, nearly two years after the incident.
An official said that a woman named Saira had turned up and said she was the woman shown in the footage.
He said that the militants had defamed the woman by accusing her of immorality and a so-called Shariah court of militants had ordered her to be lashed.
