Kanpur : Call it a coincidence or routine bureaucratic reshuffle, the industrial city of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh now has two former IIT-Kanpur students heading the administration and the police.
Both technocrats — Amitabh Yash (DIG Kanpur) and district magistrate M.P. Agarwal — have studied at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, known for its academic excellence.
While Agarwal did his B.Tech and M.Tech from the premier institute way back in 1994, the new Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) Amitabh Yash is also an IIT-Kanpur alumnus and hence is familiar with the problems of the city. Yash did his B.Tech in 1993 and went on to join the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1996.
The officials admit that having spent a considerable part of their prime in the city makes “things easier”.
