Eight killed as typhoon sweeps Philippines

Manila : Eight people have been killed while two others remain missing as Typhoon Mitag moves across the northern tip of the Philippines, the national disaster relief agency said Monday.

The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said in a statement that the toll in the typhoon rose to eight after Mitag landed on the archipelago Sunday night.

The NDCC reported that 141,863 people were evacuated to various shelters in neighbouring provinces.

The storm triggered flash floods and landslides and snapped power connection in several northeastern provinces after the typhoon’s landfall.
