New Delhi: Thanking Pakistan for its help to passengers of an Indian plane that made an emergency landing at Nawabshah airport in Sindh, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Tuesday acknowledged that India’s neighbour had gone out of its way in providing assistance.
“I would like to convey my sincere appreciation and my thanks to the helpful attitude and cooperation that we received when an Air India flight had to land in Pakistan,” said Krishna, who arrived in Phnom Penh from Tokyo Tuesday evening.
“I think the Pakistan government went out of their way to make things easy for all those who were inside the aircraft and they provided every possible assistance including feeding the passengers, who were on board the aircraft,” he said.
“This certainly is something which India deeply appreciates,” Krishna added.
Krishna is in the Cambodian capial to attend the 10th Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) plus India ministers, the 2nd East Asia Summit foreign ministers and the 19th ASEAN Regional Forum ministerial meets. He was in Tokyo earlier in the week to attend an international meeting on Afghanistan.
The Air India flight from Abu Dhabi to New Delhi had to make an emergency landing in Nawabshah airport early Monday after warning instruments on board indicated failure of all its hydraulics systems.
Over 120 passengers on board the plane were assisted by Pakistan government by providing the food and water and other assistance when they were in Nawabshah airport.
Later, an Indian relief plane reached Pakistan and brought back the passengers later that evening.
