Yousuf to appear for arbitration hearing

New Delhi(IANS) : Prolific Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf will have to appear for an arbitration hearing in Mumbai Dec 15 for reneging on the contract he had signed with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).

Yousuf, piqued by his omission from the Pakistan squad for the Twenty20 world championship, had signed with the ICL and publicly stated he was pulling out his central contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Yousuf relented following discussions with the PCB officials and decided to renege on the ICL contract and sign national contract that enabled him to sign with Indian Premier League (IPL) that has been approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The ICL, however, is unhappy with Yousuf’s going back on it, as he was its biggest catch among current cricketers. It wants to set an example for other players by proceeding against the Pakistan batsman. They say the contract clearly forbids him from playing in any other league.

Yousuf was promised support by the PCB to defend him legally.

Other disgruntled Pakistan players, Abdul Razzaq, Azhar Mahmood, Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar and Shabbir Ahmed, however, stayed on with the ICL along with their former skipper Inzamamul Haq.
