New Delhi : Congress leader P.J. Kurien has emerged as the party’s choice for the post of Rajya Sabha deputy chairman, party sources said here Thursday.
Party leaders, including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, had reached out to the opposition parties for the unanimous election of Kurien to the post, they said.
A motion to elect Kurien, a Kerala MP, could be moved in the house Tuesday, the sources said.
The post of Rajya Sabha deputy chairman has been vacant since April.
