London: A woman dentist in Britain has been jailed for seven years for cheating the National Health Service (NHS) of over 1.5 million pounds (about $2.5 million) by claiming procedures on dead patients.
Joyce Trail, 50, spent the money on designer clothes, luxury homes and 1,000 pounds-a-night hotel suites in the Caribbean as well as sending her granddaughters to a private school, Daily Express reported.
Trail submitted more than 7,000 false invoices over three years at her practice in Birmingham.
The scam is one of the biggest NHS frauds ever uncovered.
Trail, of West Midlands, and her daughter Nyri Stirling, 33, who worked for her, have been convicted of conspiracy to defraud. Stirling received two years imprisonment.
