Tehran : Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Sunday that the European Union’s move to recognize Iranian right to use nuclear energy and to get its case back from the Security Council to IAEA is a token of courage and realistic approach.

In a meeting with head of Strasbourg-based European Parliament’s delegation Ms. Angelika Beer, Mottaki said that such an action helped boost prestige of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations Security Council.

Mottaki said that the US national security agencies have provided the US administration with an opportunity to shift gear, confess to the wrong intelligence it had used against Iran and adopt a just and realistic approach.

He said that the European Union has already undertaken to respect the IAEA report on Iran and honor Iranian rights stipulated in Non-Proliferation Treaty if Iran gets a clean health bill from the agency.

Iran won a victory over the US on November 15 when IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei verified civilian nature of Iranian nuclear program and non-diversion of nuclear materials in Iran.

ElBaradei said in his report to IAEA Board of Governors that the “answers Iran delivered to the outstanding issues support the documentation.”

Mottaki told the European Parliament’s representative that confidence building is a two-way track and Iran will never accept extra-judicial demand to relinquish its legitimate right.

He welcomed any positive step to be taken by the European Union and said that Iran is keen on developing balanced relations with different countries and the European states should not miss the economic opportunities in Iran for political objectives of a certain government.

Mottaki said that Iran believes that there is democratic means to help resolve the Palestinian problem, but, it requires readiness to hear the solutions.

He said that Iran is serious in continued dialogue with the United States on Iraq in the upcoming fourth round of talks on condition that the US honor the commitments it made in the former talks.

Mottaki said that the US has not fulfilled the obligations it undertook in the past three round of talks.
