NEW DELHI, Dec 13 (KUNA) — India Thursday approved 180 million usd for up-gradation and construction of a crucial road from Zaranj to Delaram in Afghanistan.
“The Indian cabinet today gave its approval for involving an expenditure of 180 million usd for upgradation and construction of the road from Zaranj to Delaram in Afghanistan,” India’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told reporters today after a cabinet meeting here chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “The construction of the road would help Afghanistan to provide communications facility in a remote part of the country. It will demonstrate the government of India’s commitment to the rebuilding of Afghanistan,” Dasmunsi said. “India’s presence in general would further strengthen our interests in Afghanistan,” he stressed. “The road would give India improved access into Afghanistan and Central Asia. This would also open an alternate route for Afghanistan to an Iranian seaport,” the Minister said.
India had earlier assured 750 million usd for Afghanistan’s reconstruction process in infrastructure, health and education sectors. New Delhi is also helping to build the new parliament in Kabul.
