New Delhi: The AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia is going to organize the Annual Anwar Jamal Kidwai Memorial Lecture on “The Growth of Social Media: Curse or Born?” by Mr. Vinod Mehta, former editor of Outlook weekly. The lecture will be followed by an interactive session with him.
Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia shall Chair the session and will deliver the presidential remarks on this occasion.
Vinod Mehta was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and did his schooling and graduation from Lucknow. The original Debonair Man, Vinod Mehta edited the magazine for some years before he launched the Sunday Observer.
In between he had written a couple of books – on Meena Kumari and Sanjay Gandhi and worked with a few other publications. Moving to Delhi to restart The Pioneer, he probably did not know that he was bidding adieu to Mumbai forever.
It was in Delhi that Vinod Mehta launched the weekly Outlook nearly twenty years ago and has remained associated with it ever since. He mentored some of the biggest names in journalism, who have grown with him, with his motto that everything else can work together but a politician and a journalist can never be friends because one has essentially to hide what the other has to reveal.
He is one of the finest editors of contemporary India. Mehta is a sharp, incisive, intellectually alive, uncompromising and colourful media personality; a breed slowly disappearing.
The programme is scheduled to be held on February 18, 2013 at 4 pm in FTK-Centre for Information Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia.
