“He is expected to come Saturday on a private visit,” an official told IANS.

He said the Pakistani prime minister is scheduled to visit Ajmer to offer prayers at the shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari had embarked on a similar pilgrimage in April last year and had later met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over lunch in New Delhi. The two leaders had held talks to boost bilateral relations.

The dialogue process between the two countries was impacted by ceasefire violations on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir in January this year with India lodging a strong protest over the brutal killing of two of its soldiers in the Poonch sector.

Sources said it had yet not been finalised if there will be any “courtesy call” during Ashraf’s visit.

The term of Ashraf’s government ends later this month.
