“The judicial system in India has failed to deliver justice to litigants. It is increasingly losing its effectiveness and is limited by internal and external factors, Subramanium said.

He was delivering the Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Lecture on “Effectiveness and Limitations of the Judicial System” at the Department of Law, Aligarh Muslim University.

He added that the government should identify and address each of the constituent units of the judicial system and work on each of them simultaneously.

He stated that backlog, delays and an inefficient judicial system eroded public trust and confidence in legal institutions and eventually weaned faith in the rule of law.

AMU Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah said that Aligarh’s name was linked to its faculty of law and it would continue to provide good lawyers and judges to the country.
