Kohima : Chotisuh Sazo of the ruling Naga People’s Front was Thursday unanimously elected as the Nagaland assembly speaker.
Protem Speaker Namri Nchang declared Sazo as the speaker uncontested.
Nchang also administered the oath and affirmation of office to 59 MLAs in the 60-seat assembly.
Addressing the house after assuming office, Sazo assured that it would be his earnest endeavour to ensure that the rights and privileges of all the members are protected.
He expressed his gratitude to the members for having faith in him and electing him to the chair.
Sazo, who was elected in February Nagaland assembly polls from Chazouba constituency assured the members that he would be fair, impartial and judicious to all.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio lauded Sazo as a person with high credentials that of vast experience as a former government officer and later as a parliamentary secretary.
Leader of the opposition and Congress leader Tokheho also expressed confidence that the newly elected speaker would set fine examples for future houses to emulate.
Tokheho also expressed hope that the speaker would be generous in dealing with members and treat everyone on equal footing.
