Ahmed Abdul Rahman, also an aid to President Mahmoud Abbas told reporters on Monday that “Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip by force, is pushing Israel towards escalation of violence against the Palestinians.”

The Israeli army and government are studying the possibility of carrying out a large-scale military operation against Gaza following an increase of homemade rocket attacks at southern Israeli towns and communities.

Hamas, which is listed by Europe and the United States as a terrorist organization, ousted moderate President Mahmoud Abbas and his security forces and took control of Gaza the Gaza Strip by force in mid June.

“Gaza’s position is tragic because the Hamas coup hit the legitimacy of the leadership. Hamas is also an irresponsible movement that doesn’t conceive the dimensions of what it does under fake slogans,” said Abdul Rahman.

He clarified that the Gaza Strip populations “live in between two hells, the hell of Hamas and the hell of Israeli military escalation, adding “therefore Hamas should end its Gaza takeover in order to end the people’s suffering.”
