Mumbai: When Mumbai Indians stepped onto the field Saturday to take on opponents Pune Warriors in an Indian Premier League match, they also batted for the education of India’s children.
The Mumbai Indians ‘Education For All’ initiative invited over 10,000 children and some 1,000 representatives of various NGOs to the Wankhede Stadium to spread the message of rightful education for every child in the country.
Nearly 80 percent of the children were from the under-privileged strata of the society from Mumbai, Pune and surroundings.
Launched in 2010, the ‘Education For All’ programme supports efforts to provide holistic education, the organisers said. It is estimated to have reached out to 15,000 children this and will do so to a similar number this year.
