Chandigarh : The Punjab and Haryana High Court Monday came down heavily on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for not submitting its final report on the probe into alleged criminal activities of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect, asking that it be filed by July 31.
The CBI counsel and officials were rapped by the division bench comprising Justices Adarsh Goel and M.M.S. Bedi for not submitting the investigation report Monday.
The investigating agency is probing allegations of sexual exploitation of women followers inside the dera headquarters at Sirsa, 300 km from here, the mysterious murder of sect follower Ranjit Singh and the murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chandra Chhatrapati, who had exposed the dera activities.
The bench expressed its displeasure when the CBI counsel said the report being submitted Monday was not the final one but the "final field investigation report".
The counsel said the recent row between the dera and the Sikh community in Punjab had hampered their investigations.
The bench directed the agency to submit its final investigation report, including the names of the people to be chargesheeted, by July 31.
