Baghdad : A wave of shooting and bombing incidents killed 16 people while injuring 32 others in Iraqi provinces of Niniveh and Diyala, police said Tuesday.
In the northern province of Niniveh, four people were killed and five injured in separated shooting and bombings, reported Xinhua citing a police source.
Three of the five attacks occurred in Mosul city, capital of Niniveh province, some 170 km north of Baghdad, the source added.
Earlier in the day, 12 people were killed and 27 injured in separate bomb attacks in eastern Diyala province.
Five people were killed and 13 wounded when a car bomb detonated near a coffee shop in a village, near the provincial capital city of Baquba, some 65 off Baghdad, a source said requesting anonymity.
In a separate incident, three people were killed and five wounded in a roadside bomb explosion near their car in Baquba’s suburb of Bawiyah, the source said.
Meanwhile, a roadside bomb killed four people and injured nine as it went off at a marketplace in a village, some 30 km from Baquba, the source added.
Diyala province, stretching from the eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border, has long been a volatile area since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 despite repeated military operations against militant groups.
