The meeting focused on the communal violence in the state’s Muzaffarnagar district that left 48 dead and displaced thousands from their homes.

“There is an emergency-like situation in Uttar Pradesh… there is no government there. So, our representatives urged him to impose President’s rule in the state,” Rajnath Singh told media persons.

“We urged him that a judge appointed by the Supreme Court should conduct the probe into the riots. Besides, all those who have suffered loss of life and property should be properly compensated,” Rajnath Singh added.

BJP leader in the Uttar Pradesh assembly Hukum Singh said the local administration ignored their warnings about the deteriorating situation.

“We have submitted a written statement. We informed the local administration about the tension which prevailed in Muzaffarnagar since last six months. But they did not pay attention,” he said.
