New Delhi : The last day of a tumultuous session of the Delhi assembly saw the maiden visit by the family of Arvind Kejriwal, who resigned as chief minister after 49 days in power when his dream Jan Lokpal bill got vetoed by the Congress and the BJP.
The house was taken by surprise when Kejriwal’s wife Sunita, father Ram Kejriwal, mother Geeta Devi and his son Pulkit entered the Lieutenant Governor’s gallery to watch the proceedings. His daughter Harshita was, however, not there.
Whenever Congress and BJP legislators joined in attacking Kejriwal and demanded his resignation, Geeta Devi was seen wringing her hands in dismay. His wife, a civil service officer, however, stayed unruffled during the period the family was there.
They however did not stay on to hear Kejrwal’s speech, when he declared that “it seems like our last (assembly) session”. He resigned shortly thereafter.
Wearing a green sweatshirt, son Pulkit was sitting in his mother’s lap as the gallery’s first row was full.
Congress and BJP lawmakers were seen pointing out the family’s presence to each other while a few AAP legislators, who knew the family, waved to his wife.
Kejriwal’s aged parents sat quietly throughout, not talking much, but keenly taking in the proceedings.
