New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Friday sent a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, requesting him to accept his cabinet’s decision for immediate dissolution of the assembly and to conduct fresh elections.

The letter to Mukherjee through Lt Governor Najeeb Jung stated that the council of ministers met Friday evening and decided to tender its resignation.

“The council also recommends dissolution of Delhi assembly and immediate conduct of elections to the Delhi legislative assembly. The same may kindly be accepted,” the letter said.

Kejriwal resigned Friday – 49 days after taking charge of the Delhi government – following a tumultuous day in the state assembly where combined Congress and BJP legislators “defeated” his party’s attempts to introduce its signal Jan Lokpal bill, which the Aam Admi Pary (AAP) says was meant to curb corruption in high places.
