Malappuram (Kerala): The eighth Mujahid state conference was held in Kottakkal which created a new awareness and paved the seeds of a new renaissance came to an end last Sunday. The prgroamme began on February 6 and conclude on February 9.
The four day conference was noted for the participation of thousands from all walks of life. Political leaders, including the chief minister Oommen Chandy, home minister Ramesh Chennithala, and industrial minister of Kerala PK Kunjalikkutty percolated in the programme.
Religious leaders like the Mufti of Baithul Mukades, and visionary Vaheedudhhen Khan , social critic Kancha Ilayya, leaders of Indian Islahi movement delivered talks in various sessions focusing on religion, humanity and renaissance .
The eighth mujahid conference held in kottakkal was organized by Nadvathul Mujahideen. Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennittala called for joint efforts to confront the challenges facing secularism in the country. “It is the majority’s duty to protect the rights of minorities,” he said in the conference, attended by people in large number.
The conference witnessed a special session for Muslim unity with leaders of different organizations emphasizing the need to work together for the welfare of the community and confront the challenges facing them.
There was another session on “Politics of Resistance” where Prof. Kancha Ilayyah said that social fascism is the greatest threat facing the country. “Fascists are trying to eliminate Muslims from the country. Cast system is one of the reasons for the tremendous growth of Islam in India,” he said.
Abdussamad Samadani, MLA and a former Member of Parliament, also spoke at the conference and urged secular forces to join hands to strengthen pluralism and weaken fascism in the country.
The Global Islahi Meet, which was held in connection with the conference, urged the state and central governments to launch a special package to mitigate the problems of NRIs losing jobs in the Gulf.
Kerala Pravasi Welfare Board Chairman PMA Salam inaugurated the meet, which was presided over by KNM Vice President Ibrahim Haji Elankode.
The Mujahid conference also urged the government to initiate steps for the provision of housing facility for all the citizens. “It is a shame for civilized India that millions of its citizens sleep in the street,” the statement said.
The conference saw the formation of Global Islahi Movement for the supporters of Islahi ideology in different countries. P.A. Hussain (Fujairah), Kuhammed Hashim (KSA), and K.N. Sulaiman Madani (Qatar) are its president, general Secretary and treasurer respectively.
The special conference for the deaf, and the other state conference for people from neighbouring states were two unique vents. The message exhibition which showcased the history of Islam also attracted about 40000 people from various parts of the state.
