Gurgaon: An infant girl’s body was found Monday near the Gurgaon Expressway, police said. The mother is the primary suspect.

The body of the baby girl (15-20 days old) was found in a vacant government plot near Rajiv Chowk here, some 35 km from Delhi.

Vijay Kumar, chief of Sadar police station told IANS: “The body was wrapped in a piece of white cloth and same coloured towel and was hidden under pieces of debris and sand mixed with garbage.”

“A team of forensic experts and dog squad examined the crime spot and collected the evidence. We have registered a case under section 318 of Indian Penal Code (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body),” Kumar said.

“The mother of such an abandoned infant usually remains the main suspect; we will include section 34 of IPC (common intent) if involvement of more than one person is established,” he added.

It was not clear that the baby was alive while she was kept under debris or she was dumped there after her murder.

“We will even impose section 302 of IPC (murder) on the outcome of post-mortem report and our investigation,” he further added.

Jyoti Singh, a forensic expert who examined the spot and the body, said: “The age of the baby may be between 15 to 20 days but the post-mortem examination report will reveal the real age and cause of death. The baby may have been abandoned Sunday evening or late night”.

A passerby informed the police about the baby’s body as a part of her head was visible from under the debris.
