Protest rally in Agartala on Gaza attacks

Agartala : A protest rally was organised here Sunday calling for an end to Israeli military action in Gaza and urging the Indian government to play an assertive role on the issue.

Parliamentarians, legislators, writers, poets, social activists, intellectuals, artists, journalists and other people, including women, from cross section of the society took part in the protest march that went around the capital city Agartala of Left-ruled Tripura.

Performing songs, reciting poems and raising slogans against the military attacks, the protesters announced more such events against the blanket military assaults on civilians.

A memorandum, signed by hundreds of participants, was sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to take an assertive role by the Indian government against the indiscriminate massacre of civilians including women and children in Gaza.

“New Delhi should take a bold position to uphold the humanitarian values for which India is known across the world,” the memorandum said.
