New Delhi : A Delhi BJP delegation Tuesday met Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and urged him to ensure that e-rickshaws are allowed to ply in Delhi soon.
Gadkari had Monday said the ministry had put up a draft notification concerning the plying of e-rickshaws in the national capital on its website and was seeking public opinion on it for the next 10 days.
“We urge the minister to make sure that e-rickshaws start plying in Delhi after the 10 day period is over,” Satish Upadhyay, chief of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi unit, told the media here after meeting Gadkari.
“It’s a question of survival of hundreds of individuals and families who are associated with this profession,” he added.
The Delhi High Court last week said the ban on plying of “illegal” e-rickshaws in Delhi would continue till the law is amended to bring them under the ambit of the Motor Vehicles Act, adding that “what is prohibited by law is not permitted in action”.
According to a statement issued by the party, Gadkari informed the delegation that a new guideline policy had been compiled by the ministry which will be published in the next couple of days.
