Kozhikode: It was called ‘Smile of Love’ but it was a novel way of protest to provoke a thought about the degradation of moral values in the Kerala society.

Holding placards, protestors from across the state kissed the children, who had come here at the Marine Drive to spend their evening with parents and gave away leaflets written on extending love and affection to parents, relatives and all persons in need.

The programme, organised by the Campus Wing of the Samastha Kerala Sunni Students Federation, the students’ outfit of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, sought to strike a chord on Saturday (November 8) evening.

“It seems the state has reached a point of reckless generation, which is least concerned about moral values but still people boast credentials of tradition and morality. The protest is not meant to be against the ‘Kiss of Live’ protest held here last week. It is a gentle reminder about the alarming fast social degradation,” said Campus Wing state coordinator Shebin Mohammed.

Similing at complete strangers, passerbys, convener Muneer PV, said: “This mode of campaign assumes significance in a society, which forgets to smile as it is caught in vicious circle of selfishness and prefers financial profits. To smile to your brother is Sadqah (charity activity).”

More than 200 Campus Wing members from various parts of the state attended the programme that went on for almost two hours.
