Aligarh: The Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) had organized the “Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Memorial Lecture” on the National Education Day to mark the birth anniversary of India’s first education minister.
Delivering the lecture, Professor Saleem Kidwai, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi said Azad’s conspectus of education covered all segments of Indian population. “Azad gave attention to every important aspect of education, whether it concerned medium of instruction, syllabi, adult literacy, sports, women’s education, research, future of graduates, service condition of teachers etc,” he said.

“There was an important link between Azad’s educational vision and his education policy and programmes. As the first Minister of Education, it was his prime responsibility to concretize an education policy for free India and initiate plans and programmes,” he said and emphasized, for Azad, education was an instrument of social transformation.
Paying rich tributes to Maulana Azad, AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor Brig S Ahmad Ali said he laid the foundation stone of education in free India, a release from Dr Rahat Abrar, AMU PRO said.
Ahmad also stressed on the need for revising curricula according to the need of job market and how it is important that education is linked to the industry.
Professor Sunita Sharma, chairperson, Department of Education proposed a vote of thanks. Earlier, Dr Salma Kureshi welcomed the guests and Dr Anees Bano conducted the programme.
