Kozhikode: As the recurring clashes between CPM and RSS activists threw normal life out of gear in various parts of Kannur district, the CPM district leadership has approached the district police chief alleging that various police stations have been adopting a stance favorable to the RSS while registering cases.
“While the police are adopting a friendly attitude towards communal forces such as the RSS, they ignore all norms while taking action against CPM activists. RSS men are charged for minor offenses while CPM functionaries are charged with non-bailable offences,” said the memorandum submitted to SP P N Unnirajan by a CPM delegation comprising district secretary P Jayarajan, MLAs K K Narayanan and C Krishnan, state committee member K K Ragesh and others.
“The RSS besieged several Muslim houses in Poiloor after the Lok Sabha elections and the situation improved only after the intervention of the district administration,” the CPM said and added that “the police had assured all assistance to the RSS, which was set to restart the move”.
CPM offices and houses of party activists came under attack in various places in Peringome police station limits but no action was taken on any of the incidents, the CPM alleged. “A bomb explosion took place on the compound of a BJP activist at Alakkad in Kankol-Alappadamb panchayat on January 2. The mother of an RSS leader suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Mangalore. Since the local police refused to act on the issue, the CPM approached the Payyanur CI, but to no avail,” P Jayarajan said.
The party also complained about various incidents at Iriveri, Chakkarakkal and Peralassery.
Jayarajan said the police chief was urged to take urgent steps on the issues after carrying out a proper probe. “The CPM demanded firm steps against the RSS men engaged in violence and that the police atrocities against the CPM be stopped,” he added.
