Gurgaon: Seventeen people from two groups were arrested for rioting outside a police station here, police said on Monday.
More than 60 people, belonging to Anoop and Pawan groups from Narsingpur village near here on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, gathered outside the Kherki Daula police station following a monetary dispute.
Anoop and Pawan had dispute over the money they invested in land deals and lottery. Both claimed that they were supposed to get several lakhs of rupees from each other.
“Police were called when a village panchayat (community gathering) failed to resolve the issue. Five members each from both the groups were asked to reach the police station to resolve the issue,” a police official said.
“But nearly 50 people from Pawan camp and 10 people from Anoop camp unlawfully gathered outside the police station and started fighting after heated arguments,” the official added.
