Aligarh: AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor has announced that the varsity’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) has got projects worth Rs 23 crores for various departments including the Department of Paediatric Cardiology.
He also confirmed that proposals for the establishment of a college of nursing and an institute of pharmacology in the university have been sent to the government.
Prof Mansoor further said that the university wants a 1500 seat, new hostel for research scholars and a 500 seat, new hostel for foreign students attending the university. “The proposals for the establishment of these hostels have also been sent to the government,” said the Vice Chancellor adding that the concerned officials are also working to bring new courses in various departments of the university.
He further added that while the teaching of core courses is important; in view of new developments like the GST and environmental sciences, new courses are the need of the hour.
The Vice Chancellor said that AMU has a culture of regular teaching and the university is always determined to continue it with the necessary discipline.
Prof Mansoor also said that the university wants to produce good humans and good citizens to serve the nation. He made a strong plea for inculcating newspaper reading as it goes a long way in the development of the personality.
Referring to Bill Clinton’s autobiography, Prof Mansoor said that Clinton, doing internship at the White House while he was a student was told by US National Security Advisor to read five newspapers and soon he will know more than him.
