New Delhi : Demanding implementation of the Sachar Committee Report, the minority cell of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) held a 24-hour hunger strike at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Zafar Akhtar, chairman of the party’s minority cell, said the Union government kept itself busy in forming committees instead of implementing the report.
Vice-chairman of the cell, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, said the Sachar Committee report was placed in Parliament on November 30 last year. It is yet to be implemented. The conditions of Indian Muslims are steadily deteriorating, so steps must be taken to improve their educational, social and economic conditions, he maintained. The country cannot make substantial progress until and unless the conditions of the largest minority of the country are improved, he said. He said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) did not respond to the memorandum the party submitted earlier.
