In its recent press statement, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has refuted allegations made by political leaders against its medical department, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) becoming a hub of Covid19 infection.
The letter states that JNMC is a frontline hospital in Western Uttar Pradesh that is fighting the Coronavirus by “working round the clock and conducting 250 free-of-cost tests daily of samples coming from Agra, Mathura, Bulandshahr, Hatras, Moradabad, Sambhal, Etah, Kasgunj, Rampur and other areas.”
Clarifying that the doctors at the medical college are well equipped with Personal Protection Kits, the lab has conducted almost 5, 000 tests. The AMU authorities have resounded in the statement that in the fight against Coronavirus, two young AMU faculty members from JNMC and the Z H College of Engineering and Technology have developed a cost-effective Infection ‘Protection Box’ to shield physicians and nurses during COVID-19 patient intubations, reducing their risk of infection.
Speaking on charges against its health workers, AMU has stated that “80 of our health workers attending Covid patients have tested negative, whereas five patients, who came in contact of positive cases, including a resident doctor have also tested negative.” Continuing with its endeavors for the deadly pandemic, AMU authorities quote that to amplify the help towards those suffering due to the ongoing countrywide lockdown, JNMC has also started helplines. Accordingly, people facing cardiac problems can make brief calls or send WhatsApp messages on the officially released helpline number (7599050505). Additionally, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology would also be available to answer the queries of patients on helpline numbers, 9719287391 and 9887430520. All of these efforts towards the national health emergency have earned the JNMC the status of a L2 Covid 19 hospital.
The release states that JNMC has been “reporting all tests to the District Administration in line with protocols,” further informing that all coronavirus positive patients have been admitted in JNMC after visiting various private hospitals and health centres. In order to defy the false accusations, the AMU administration it has demanded “a thorough investigation in the matter.”
