Ranchi : A top officer of Crime Investigation Department (CID) has been asked to explain how a letter seeking prosecution of a top bureaucrat was leaked to the media.
“I have received a letter from police headquarters which has sought explanation how the letter was leaked. I will reply to the notice,” Chaudhary told IANS, adding: “What I did was under jurisdiction of my official duty.”
Inspector General (IG) of Police CID Amitabh Chaudhary in a letter Feb 14 had sought prosecution of Chief Secretary P.P. Sharma in an alleged graft case.
The letter was leaked to the press earlier this week, following which the two top officials of the Jharkhand government have trained guns against each other.
Chaudhary in the letter to Additional Director General of Police Gauri Shankar Rath had asked for approval to prosecute Sharma in a case pertaining to corruption charges against the chief secretary when he was managing director of Biscoumaun of Patna and secretary of the department of cooperatives in 1988.
The IG’s letter said Sharma ordered fertilisers from Suraj Brand company of Rajasthan at a cost of Rs.2,509.50 per metric tonne while the prevailing price of the brand was Rs.2,000. The fertiliser supplied by the company was found to be sub-standard. Despite that, Sharma paid Rs.5.4 million to the company, according to the letter.
However, the chief secretary denied any case was pending against him in Bihar.
“No case is pending against me in Bihar. The wild allegation made by IG CID violates the service rules,” Sharma has said in a letter to state police chief V.D. Ram.
He has also sought a high-level probe into the IG’s report.
