Chennai : India’s second largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India Ltd has reported a decline in domestic sales during February 2008 as compared to the corresponding period of previous year.
Last month Hyundai sold 14,600 units in India as against 15,459 units sold in February 2007.
However, the company’s exports went up by 4,834 units to 14,401 units last month compared to the 9,567 units of the same period of last year.
The cumulative sales for last month stood at 29,001 units as against 25,026 units sold last February.
The segment-wise cumulative sales in February are as follows: A1 24,563 units (Santro, i10, Getz), A2 4,402 units (Verna, Accent), A4 Segment 27 units (Sonata) and sports utility vehicle 9 units.
According to Arvind Saxena, senior vice president of the company, the central government budget has brought in some good news and should provide the necessary impetus for the small car growth.
We have already passed on the benefit of the excise duty cut to customers on three models, Santro, i10 and Getz and we expect sales of these models to grow in the coming months.
