United Nations : United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon eloquently saluted the governments of Chad and Sudan because of the agreement to normalize their relations in the benefit of regional stability.
The signing of the agreement was celebrated in Dakar, Senegal, with the mediation of Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, and seems to put en end to a chapter of great hostility between both African bordering countries.
The government of Chad accused Sudan of being involved in the failed coup attempt registered at the beginning of Feburary against Chadian President Idriss Deby.
At the same time Sudanese authorities denounced the Chadian government of supporting rebel groups in the convulsed Sudanese province of Darfur.
Ban Ki Moon expressed his enthusiasm because of the determination and will declared by Chad and Sudan to normalize their bilateral relations.
A cease of tensions between Chad and Sudan will have a beneficial effect on the UN and African Union efforts to reach a peaceful agreement to end five years of crisis in Darfur.
UN and AU are taking part in a joint mission for peace in Darfur called UNAMID.
The agreement in Dakar occurred in moments in which special envoys from UN and AU are making steps for a negotiated agreement between the Sudanese government and the rebels in Darfur.
UN humanitarian agencies have reported that more than 300,000 inhabitants of Darfur have crossed the border to Chadian national territory to escape from the crisis.
Ban Ki Moon called both countries to do things for peace restoration and stability along their common border, and in his congratulations to Chad and Sudan, he assured UN will work with all the concerning parties to ensure the implementation of the agreement.
