Islamabad : Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has expressed serious concern over `aggressive US lobbying in Pakistan’ to get a fresh lease of life for its ‘disastrous and failed policies of terrorizing people’ and the country in the name of so-called war on terror.

“The visit of US Deputy Secretary of State and Assistant Secretary of State has been a part of this game which Bush and Musharraf have actually lost,” Deputy Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad said.

US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher are in Pakistan for talks with the new Pakistani government.

Foreign affairs analysts say that the visit of American diplomats is aimed at influencing policies of the new government.

Prof. Khurshid Ahmad expressed satisfaction over the independent position taken by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that the future policy would be formulated by the Parliament and not under the dictates of Washington.

“The country has suffered because of Pervez Musharraf’s surrender to commands of Washington,” the Jamaat leader said.

He hoped that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would also adopt an independent and courageous policy in keeping with the wishes of people of Pakistan.

He however expressed his regrets that Peoples Party delegation led by its Chairperson Bilal Bhutto Zardari and Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari went to the US Embassy to meet these officials.

He said the PML-N’s Delegation kept the dignity of the people of Pakistan but not going to the US embassy but received the American delegation at Punjab House, Islamabad.

“Political leadership should be sensitive not only to the vital interests and objectives of Islam and Pakistan but also the dignity and self respect of the Pakistani nation”, Khurshid concluded.
