Damascus : Foreign ministers of the Arab League demanded Friday to respect the unity and integrity of Iraq, convulsed by violence since the beginning of the US military invasion in March 2003.
At the opening ceremony of the second and last day of preparatory meetings for Saturday and Sunday summit of Arab head of states in Damascus, participants expressed concern over the main problems gripping the Arab world.
Draft resolutions to which Prensa Latina had access to also demands respect for the Arab and Islamic identity of Iraq, and rejects all attempt of dividing it or interfering in its internal affairs.
Behind closed doors at the Conference Center of the Ebla Cham Palace Hotel, in the outskirts of Damascus, foreign ministers reviewed the inter-Arab relations and renewed their commitment with the Arab Peace Initiative.
That text, sanctioned during the Arab summit held in Beirut in 2002, was seen as a base to find a just and understanding solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, attached to the Madrid peace conference, the UN 242 and 338 resolutions and land-for-peace formula.
According to a foreign ministers proposal, the summit agenda includes draft resolutions on the Palestinian problem, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Also included is a finding a dignified solution to the Palestinian refugee situation, in virtue of the UN 194 resolution that establishes an independent Palestinian state with eastern Jerusalem as a capital.
Attendees also rejected the unilateral US sanctions of Syria, particularly the so-called Law of Accounting, termed a violation of international law and resolutions and the UN charter.
