Putin stresses importance of securing Arabian Gulf stability

Moscow, Russia : Russian President Vladimir Putin has stressed the importance of ensuring security and stability in the strategic Arabian Gulf region.

In a letter to the Arab summit held in Damascus, Putin called for directing collective efforts of the parties concerned to find solutions to the problems of the region and develop confidence procedures including the issue of the Iranian nuclear file to ensure security and stability in the region.

Putin praised the close cooperation between Russia and the Arab states toward a wide range of regional and international issues, confirming the existence of common interest in ensuring sustained development in the Middle East and enabling all countries of the region to live in safety and peace.

Putin expressed his regret that the region continues to suffer from a host of festering conflicts and hot spots, which are nutritious environment for terrorism and extremism, warning that betting on power to impose solutions on the region could lead to more deterioration and risks.

Putin stressed the importance of joint action to deal with various crises, whether in the Middle East, Africa or Europe.

He stressed that the key to normalizing the situation in the Middle East lies in achieving a just and comprehensive settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Putin stressed the need that the parties concerned adhere to the known basis of the international legitimacy, including the Arab peace initiative and to seek solutions acceptable to all parties.
