Dhaka : The Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited Tuesday signed an agreement with the Boeing of the United States to purchase 10 new generation aircraft.
Managing Director of the Biman Dr M A Momen and Regional Director of the Boeing Glen A Green inked the agreement on behalf of their respective sides in the auditorium of the Bangladesh Airlines Training Centre (BATC) at Kurmitola in the capital.
Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Jamil, newly-appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh James F Moriarty and high officials were present on the occasion.
Of the 10 aircraft, four Boeing-777’s will cost US $731.890 million, four Boeing-787’s US$ 533.255 million and two Boeing-737’s about US$ 53-55 million.
In the first phase, the four 777’s, each having 463 seats including 39 business and 424 economy class ones, are scheduled to arrive in 2013. In the second phase, the four 787’s, each having 392 seats including 26 business and 266 economy class ones, are expected to arrive in 2017.
