New Delhi : wo people were arrested here while attempting to sell a 400-year-old idol of Hindu god Rama, valued at Rs.20 million, police said Friday.
Aman Gupta, 30, and Ramakant Shukla, 45, were arrested after a tip-off Thursday from a temple near the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in central Delhi where the duo had come to sell the idol.
Police said specific information was received that the accused possessed the idol and were looking for buyers. To nab the duo, a decoy customer was sent and a deal was fixed for Rs.5 million.
Police said Gupta hailed from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and his accomplice is a resident of the city.
"We have arrested the duo and further investigations are underway," Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said.
On June 25, police had arrested a man for selling two stolen antique idols of Lord Mahavir, valued at millions of rupees in international market.
