Sydney : Australian opener Matthew Hayden’s prospects of playing in the second Test in Antigua have brightened after his rigorous net session at Sabina Park.
Hayden missed the ongoing first Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, with an Achilles tendon strain sustained during his Indian Premier League stint.
Both Hayden and Australian team medical staff were encouraged by the way he went through the net session Friday, and are hoping that he would be fit to play in the second Test in Antigua, according to a report in Sydney Morning Herald.
The Australians will also have vice-captain Michael Clarke for the second Test as he joined the team Friday night after staying back in Australia to be with his fiancee, Lara Bingle, after the death of her father.
The West Indies are also hoping their injured captain Chris Gayle will be fit to play in the second Test. He has begun training and appears to be recovering from a groin strain.
