UAE grants 500,000 tonnes of wheat to Syria

Abu Dhabi : President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has given orders for the dispatch of 500,000 tonnes of wheat as a grant to the people of Syria.

Sheikh Khalifa’s grant is a token of the strong brotherly ties and solidarity between the peoples of the United Arab Emirates and the Syrian Arab Republic and is aimed at helping Syrians to cope with the rise of wheat prices on global markets.

The granted amount of wheat will be procured from the international markets and will be directly shipped to Syria.

Sheikh Khalifa and visiting Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad held discussions Monday cooperation in various areas and explored joint Arab action following the recent Arab Summit in Damascus.

Present at the meeting were General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed, Foreign Minister, Abdul Rehman Al-Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Head f the Honorary Mission accompanying the Syrian President, UAE Ambassador to the UAE Youssef Mohammed Al-Midfa and other senior UAE and Syrian officials.
