In a joint letter to Ban Ki-moon, Kuwaiti Ambassador Abdullah Al-Murad and Iraqi Ambassador Hamid Al-Bayati further requested that the recommendations of the three working groups stemming from that meeting and a document on the concept and functions of the Ad Hoc Support Mechanism for the meetings of those countries be also circulated as UN documents.

The meeting in Kuwait was attended by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Sweden, the Security Council permanent members, the G-8 countries, the UN, the League of Arab states, the GCC Secretariat and the European Union.

The meeting was designed to contribute concretely to the Iraqi government’s efforts to restore permanent peace, stability, and prosperity through invigoration of the existing national reconciliation dialogue, strengthening the rule of law and widening participation in the political process.

The draft is scheduled to be adopted some time next week after the council members return from their African trip.
