New Delhi : Imprisoned Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Pappu Yadav has can now watch soap after authorities in high-security Tihar Jail here finally gave in to his long standing demand for an entertainment channel.
"The channel Star One as demanded by the MP has been installed in the jail and it is functioning for the last three days," a senior jail official said.
"The new bouquet of six channels – Star One, Aaj Tak, DD-1, Sadhna, Sony and Star Sports – is now available in each cell," the official told IANS.
According to jail authorities, at least 150 television sets are currently installed in the seven sub-divisional jails, which are home to more 13,000 prisoners.
Pappu alias Rajiv Ranjan Yadav, who was transferred to the jail in February 2005 after being imprisoned for his alleged involvement in the murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Ajit Sarkar, had demanded the installation of Star One in his cell two months ago.
When the jail authorities did not give in at first, he had approached a city court seeking directions in the matter.
