Islamabad : The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday refused to accept a review petition against its verdict which restricted Pakistan’s nuclear scientist Abdul QadeerKhan from giving interview to media.
The IHC on Monday ruled that Khan are not allowed to speak to media on the nuclear proliferation issue, but allowed to meet relatives and travel inside the country after security clearance.
Khan on Tuesday filed a review petition against the IHC’s judgment. Khan’s counsel Javed Iqbal Jafree requested the court to declare that Khan is a free person and it is the duty of the government to provide him security.
“Review petition can not be filed in cases relating to allegations of illegal detention,” private Dawn New TV channel quoted court sources as saying.
Khan, founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program, was put under house arrest in 2004 after he confessed on state-run television toil legally selling nuclear technology to foreign countries.
He was pardoned by President Pervez Musharraf after his confession but has remained in detention.
Khan had demanded the new government review his detention and free him.
