Dhaka : At least 10 people were charred to death and 15 injured when a major fire broke out in an old part of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka early Monday morning, fire service officials said.
According to fire brigade officials, the fire started from a chemical shop in the ground floor of a 17-storey building and quickly spread to other parts of the building, causing the deaths and injuries.
It took one and a half hours for the fire brigade to extinguish the fire.
An official said the fire went up to the fourth floor of the building and many residents who live there rushed out of their homes and caused a stampede.
“Some people were injured during the stampede,” he said.
The reason behind the fire is not known yet. An investigation is underway.
