Chandigarh : Beijing Olympics gold medallist Abinav Bindra was Tuesday urged to become the national ambassador for the promotion of renewable energy resources by Vilas Muttemwar, union minister of state for new and renewable energy.
“It is really unfortunate that I could not meet Abhinav because of my stiff schedule. But I would appreciate such a contribution from Chandigarh. I want to convey my message through the media that we will welcome all his support, if he wants to contribute in the promotion of this noble cause,” Muttemwar told media persons here.
Ace shooter Abhinav Bindra made the country proud by winning the first individual Olympic gold for India at Beijing in China.
The union government is implementing a scheme to give financial incentives to those youth who would promote solar thermal energy system in their respective regions, said Muttemwar.
He added that youngsters are the future of India and “we have to motivate them and include them in our national-level drives”.
“We will provide every sort of help to such youngsters,” he said.
