Rahul Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh to meet accident victims’ kins

Lucknow : Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi reached Uttar Pradesh Friday afternoon to meet the family members of those who died in a road accident Dec 9 in Firozabad district, officials said.

Sixty-three persons, including 17 children died when the bus they were travelling in caught fire 300 km from here.

“Gandhi landed at the Fursatganj airport in Sultanpur district at around 1 p.m. and will be heading towards the Chitawanpur village shortly,” Sultanpur police chief D.C. Mishra told IANS on phone.

At least 26 residents of Chitawanpur village died in the accident and Gandhi is slated to visit the houses of the family members of all the victims.

After this, Gandhi will be going to the Lambhua and Kadipur villages to meet family members of other victims, a Congress source said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati also visited Sultanpur Wednesday and met the family members of the victims.

“However, she met them collectively at a common place in the district but Gandhi will visit the house of each victim individually,” the source added.
