New Delhi : Keeping in mind that physical disability is often a hindrance when looking for a prospective bride or groom, a muslim matrimonial website is organising a matrimony meet for the physically challenged community Tuesday.

BharatMatrimony.com, a matrimonial site, is organising the event which will be held from 10 a.m. onwards Tuesday at the Samaj Sadan, Srinivaspuri in south Delhi.

“We have had 80 registrations till Saturday. After that too we have had a lot of inquiries. Since there will be on the spot registrations as well, we are expecting around 120 participants,” said Prem Prakash, senior zonal manager, north and west, BharatMatrimony.

“Marriage is an institution where physically challenged people get left out. With a disability, finding a suitable and correct match is rare. So the event will be a social platform for the disabled people to interact,” Prakash added.

Unlike the company’s usual matrimonial meets, Tuesday’s event will not have the Rs.500 registration fees. The event is open to people across the country.

“We consider this our social responsibility and have decided to hold the event on April 14, a day we observe as our annual matrimonial day,” Prakash said.

“Mostly people with loss of limbs and hearing impairment have come to us,” he added.

Each participant would be given a registration number and profiled in a diary.

For the first three hours, female participants will be given a chance to go through the diary and select the profiles they are interested in and interact. After lunch, another three hours will be given to male counterparts to interact with candidates they are interested in.

According to registrations so far, most of the participants are well qualified professionals.

“There are chartered accountants, professors, post graduates and highly qualified people who have registered. Their disability perhaps is the only thing stopping them from meeting prospects so we hope to facilitate that. People can exchange numbers, horoscopes, photographs as they deem fit.” Prakash said.
